Frequently Asked Questions
HOW/WHEN CAN I SIGN A PETITION?
WHY IS A RECALL NECESSARY?
Simi Valley City Councilmember Ruth Luevanos has violated the trust of Simi Valley residents. We must act now to prevent further actions that will harm our city's residents. State law gives us the authority to initiate a recall effort, and we are pursuing a recall following the prescribed legal route. You can read the official reasons stated on the Recall Petition.
HAS RUTH LUEVANOS RESPONDED TO THE CONTENTIONS IN THE RECALL PETITION?
Yes. Ruth Luevanos filed an official response to the Notice of Intention to Recall. That response is listed on each and every petition circulated in the city, which people have the right to fully read before signing.
I SIGNED YOUR ONLINE PETITION. DOES THAT HELP?
Unfortunately, even though you've signed the online petition only physical signatures on official recall petitions will count toward the required 12,000 signatures needed to qualify for a recall election.
HOW MANY SIGNATURES ARE NEEDED?
We must collect nearly 12,000 valid signatures. This is the number required by law, based on the number of registered voters in the City of Simi Valley. Because of potential duplicate signatures and other errors, we've set a goal of 15,000 signatures to ensure we have the required number of valid signatures.
WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR THE PETITIONERS TO TURN IN THE COMPLETED PETITIONS TO THE CITY?
March 3, 2020.
CAN ANYONE SIGN THE PETITION?
Only registered voters in the City of Simi Valley can legally sign the petition.
CAN I PICK UP PETITIONS LOCALLY?
We are in the process of setting up a distribution center where you can pick up petitions and return signed petitions. We'll keep you posted when the location becomes available.
